The hospital's major medical facilities include:

Laboratory

The Nairobi Women’s hospital laboratory department was started in 2001 and has seen an increase in demand of its services, both self-requested tests and those requested by our resident doctors as well as external doctors.
The Lab is has several sub-specialities and is qualified to run the range of tests within these sections:

  • Microbiology/parasitology
  • Histopathology/cytology
  • Haematology and blood transfusion services
  • Clinical chemistry and immunology

The laboratory has well established external and internal quality assessment programs and is registered with the national laboratory regulatory body. This ensures the quality of the results of tests carried out.
Laboratory offers services 24 hours a day,7 days a week

Imaging Centre

The Nairobi Women’s Hospital Imaging Centre operates on a 24hr basis. The hospital is well equipped with a Radio-diagnostic X-ray Unit which is able to do various conventional examinations including musculo-skeletal and soft tissue imaging. This unit can rotate in all directions therefore increasing efficiency in performing x-rays, even on patients who are very ill. The centre is run by highly qualified medical radiologists and medical radiographers who are specialized in producing and interpreting high quality images of the body with the use of x-rays. These x-ray images are used to diagnose injuries and diseases so that appropriate management and treatment of patients can proceed. 

Ultrasound Unit

This unit is highly efficient for a variety of procedures and can carry out the following scans but not limited to:

  • Obstetric Ultrasound scan
  • Gynaecological Ultrasound scan
  • Renal ultrasound scan
  • Abdominal ultrasound scan
  • Breast scan to check for any lumps,
  • Doppler studies- checking for blood clots in the veins/arteries,
  • Thyroid - checking for goitre etc
  • Foetal cranial ultrasound

ECG Unit

The ECG machine is used to record electrical activity of the heart at the skin surface. The machine carries out both basic and stress ECG. These tests determine any heart condition such as high or low heart rate and hence advice the doctor on the method of treatment to use

Pharmacy

The Nairobi Women’s Hospital has a fully stocked pharmacy that operates on a 24-hour basis, serving not only patients seen at our Casualty, but also those who have prescriptions from other facilities. Our pharmacists are also able to adequately advise you on your prescriptions.
The Dial-a-pharmacy is an auxiliary arm of the pharmacy whose mission is to deliver your drugs at your doorstep hence saving you time and money besides promoting drug adherence as we give you personalized services. The dial-a-pharmacy serves clients with any prescription worth at least KShs 1,000 per delivery and also targets clients on long-term medication.

Ambulance Services

Our ambulance is state-of-the-art and fully equipped with all medical necessities and a 24-hour driver and ambulance nurse. The ambulance is utilized by the hospital’s patients and also can be used for rescue of other persons at a small fee.

Theatre

The hospital has two well-equipped air-conditioned theatres, which handle both major and minor surgeries (day case surgeries). These surgeries are broadly categorized as follows:

  • Gynaecology and Obstetrics Surgeries
  • Paediatric Surgeries
  • Orthopaedic surgery
  • Biopsies
  • Plastic/ Cosmetic surgery
  • Ear Nose &Throat (ENT) surgeries
